A large panel from the Icarus II, used in the production of the Danny Boyle sci-fi thriller Sunshine. Set in the year 2057, Capa (Cillian Murphy) and a team of astronauts are sent to ‘reboot’ the sun with a nuclear device after it begins to fail, putting Earth into an ice age. When a signal is picked up from their predecessor, the Icarus I, they set course for the lost ship to find out what happened to her crew and why her mission failed.

This panel and others like it were used to make up the exterior of the airlock where Capa and Kaneda (Hiroyuki Sanada) embark on a spacewalk to make repairs to the ship. The panel is made of plastic with wood attached behind each corner and metal screws inserted around the edges. Finished in metallic grey paint, the panel has various codes in black such as “QUA1/C2-06” and “R4524” and has barcode decals.

Well used on set and featuring some damage from the panel’s removal including signs of paint wear - particularly around screw fittings - the panel remains in overall good condition.
