A set of hero light-up batteries used in the production of the Danny Boyle sci-fi thriller Sunshine.
Set in the year 2057, Capa (Cillian Murphy) and a team of astronauts are sent to ‘reboot’ the sun with a nuclear device after it begins to fail, putting Earth into an ice age. When a signal is picked up from their predecessor, the Icarus I, they set course for the lost ship to find out what happened to her crew and why her mission failed.
These batteries and others like them were used by the EVA team as they went over to the Icarus I in search of clues regarding the failure of the crew’s mission. Worn on bandoliers across the chest, the batteries helped to power their lights, cameras, radios and additional equipment.
The batteries are made of resin with socket detailing at the top to allow them to be connected to an array of equipment on board the Icarus I. Labels on the body indicate their function and details of their manufacture. Yellow LEDs in the top can be activated with a slide switch on the side. Metal pins, which slide into the holes at the top of the batteries, hold the set together. The batteries are finished in black with silver paint used for the connectors at the top.
Well used on the production, the batteries remain in very good condition.
Materials: Resin, Ferrous Metals, Plastic.
