Star Wars - Ep V - The Empire Strikes Back

Brian Johnson-Autographed Storyboard - Han Signals Speeder On Hoth

Stock #80288

A signed, production-used storyboard copy used in the production of Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. The storyboard is signed by visual effects supervisor Brian Johnson, who would go on to win an Oscar for his contribution to the film.

This storyboard came from a complete set created for the visual effects sequences, which included everything from miniature ships in the sky to the rotoscopic effects of lasers firing from the Death Star’s gun turrets.

The page features an illustration of the scene where Han has found Luke after his battle with the Snow Creatire and is signalling an approaching Rebel speeder for assistance. Beneath the image are printed scene descriptions and shooting instructions: ‘Ext. Snow Drifts – Hoth – Day. The small shelter is covered with snow on the windward side. Han has made a makeshift antenna which rests gingerly on top of the snow drift. The small armored speeder can be seen approaching in the distance as Han waves frantically in the F.G.’. The storyboard is labelled as ‘Locked off / M/C pan’ at the top right, and number “41” next to the text. Further handwritten notes can be seen at the bottom right corner.

This storyboard is printed on a sheet of white-coloured paper and is hole punched at the bottom from where it was grouped in sequence, forming a comprehensive shot by shot miniature version of the movie’s spectacular and ground-breaking effects. It comes framed in a custom-built display with laser-cut mount board etched with the iconic movie title.
