Star Wars - Ep V - The Empire Strikes Back

Animation Transparencies: Shot SBL-29 - Pirate Lasers Knockout Trooper Bazooka Cannon

Stock #71421

Animation sheets used in the production of the second Star Wars movie, The Empire Strikes Back. Rotoscoping is a traditional visual effects technique (now achieved with CGI) where an animator traces over a projected film image by hand, frame by frame, to modify the image. In the case of the Star Wars films, rotoscope animation was used to give the lightsaber blades their glow, and to animate laser blasts.

These transparent sheets feature shapes cut into them and are taped to black paper with similar cuts. These shapes were used to add lasers to a scene. The sheets are stored inside a folder labeled with 'Pirate laser knock out trooper bazooka cannon' and are dated 2/3/80. Each sheet is labeled and a paper is included which tracks the which sheet is used for which frame. Showing signs of wear from use and age, these pieces are in overall good condition.
