Hand-Drawn Millennium Falcon Drawing for Death Star Hangar Production Illustration

Stock #125828

A hand-drawn Millennium Falcon drawing, used for the production illustration of the Falcon in the Death Star hangar. McQuarrie drew elements of his paintings onto vellum, and then transferred them to illustration board for his paintings by coating the backside of the drawing with graphite, and re-tracing the top, to transfer the linework. Graphite and colored pencil on vellum.

This is a hand-drawn artwork by concept artist Ralph McQuarrie. McQuarrie is widely considered one of the seminal Star Wars artists, having designed the look of Darth Vader, C-3PO, R2-D2, and countless other elements of the original film. McQuarrie was one of Lucas’s first collaborators on Star Wars and created numerous concept sketches and production paintings that were used to convey Lucas’s vision to those working on the film, and later used to market it. McQuarrie’s paintings were published in portfolios that are well known to Star Wars collectors. He went on to work on all three films in the original trilogy and later did additional work for Lucasfilm in the 1990s, on The Illustrated Star Wars Universe project, and two Star Wars Pop-Up Books. Original artwork by McQuarrie is exceedingly rare and sought after by collectors.
