Sleepy Hollow

Jonathan Masbath’s (Mark Spalding) SFX Screaming Head

Stock #37737

”We have murders in New York without benefit of ghouls and goblins.”

Jonathan Masbath’s (Mark Spalding) SFX screaming head from Tim Burton's 1999 fantasy horror Sleepy Hollow.

Called to the small farming community of Sleepy Hollow to investigate a series of bizarre murders, Ichabod Crane (Johnny Depp) struggles against the superstitious people of the town and comes face to face with the fabled Headless Horseman (Christopher Walken).

This screaming head was made for Masbath's escape attempt from the pursuing Horseman. A complex sequence, this head was used for when the character is fleeing and is seen from the back, with a range of other heads used to simulate the actual decapitation and the final severed head that the Horseman returns to claim.

The piece is made from latex with a foam lining. There is a hole in the back of the neck where the it was attached to the head of the stunt performer. Finished in flesh tones with flushed cheeks and detailed eyes, the head has a fixed screaming expression. There are pieces of sticky tape still attached to the top of the head where a hair piece was secured in place.

The head has suffered some damage to the paintwork and to one of the ears, however the piece remains in an overall good production-used condition.

Materials: Foam, Latex.
