A clapperboard used on the production of Jim Goddard's 1986 adventure comedy Shanghai Surprise, which stars then-newlyweds Sean Penn and Madonna.
A con man, Glendon (Sean Penn), falls in love with a missionary nurse, Gloria (Madonna), and agrees to help her obtain a supply of opium to ease the suffering of her patients. But lots of other people, largely of the criminal persuasion, also want to get in on the action.
This iconic symbol of the movie industry is made of wood with a metal hinge. The clapper is predominantly black with a white arrow design on the clappers and two white boxes on the main board. The title of the film is written on the board, and underneath that the slate (1021) and take (4) numbers are written in faded chalk. There is wear from production and age, with some of the paint having come away and some rust having formed on the metal hinge, but overall it is in good condition.
Materials: Wood, Ferrous Metals.
