Returned from the Crusades, Robin of Locksley (Kevin Costner) finds his father murdered and England under the boot of the tyrannical Sheriff of Nottingham (Alan Rickman). Together with Moorish companion Azeem (Morgan Freeman), he unites the men of Sherwood against the corrupt regime.
Lord Locksley wore his costume during early scenes in Locksley Castle, when seated at his desk writing before donning his armour and being ambushed by the Sheriff.
The costume consists of a long, sleeveless blue surcoat made from heavy fabric. Falling to around knee length, the garment features a square neckline characteristic of medieval styles. It splits in two from the sternum at the front, back and sides to form wide flaps that cover the legs while allowing for free movement.
Bold bands of detailed embroidery run from chest to hem, combining different shades of blue. Wider banding runs around the neck, front and back, and shoulder and sides. A set of shiny metal studs runs across the chest beneath an embroidered line, creating the regal effect the character was known for.
Inside the surcoat is an Angels Costumiers label with ‘Mr. Brian Blessed, Sept. 1990’ handwritten in black ink.
Distressed for production to create an aged look, the piece remains in good overall condition with some fading, stains, minor fraying and a small internal tear from use and age.
Materials: Man-Made Woven Fibres.
