Harlen Maguire’s (Jude Law) signature period suit from the production of Sam Mendes’ 2002 period crime drama Road to Perdition.
Michael Sullivan is a hitman for the mob working under the direction of gangster John Rooney (Paul Newman). During a hit, his son Michael (Tyler Hoechlin) witnesses what his father does for a living, and their lives are thrown into turmoil.
This suit was worn by Harlen Maguire, a hitman on the trail of Sullivan and his son, throughout the film. It consists of a suit jacket, shirt, pair of trousers, and a waistcoat. The jacket is made from textured wool, as are the waistcoat and tartan-inspired trousers. The shirt is cotton and pattered with small brown dots. As the costume was made especially for Law in the role none of the items have sizing labels. The shirt does feature a label with the initials ‘JL’ and ‘March 2001’.
The suit has some minor intentional wear, to go with the grubby, snivelling nature of Maguire’s character, and also features what appears to be a small bloody bullet hole in the back. Maguire is shot by Sullivan at the end of the film. Considering the age and production-use of the costume it remains in an otherwise excellent condition.
