Richard III (1955)

Duke of Buckingham's (Ralph Richardson) Costume

Stock #69913

”A horse, a horse, my kingdom for a horse!”

The Duke of Buckingham’s (Ralph Richardson) costume from Laurence Olivier’s 1955 Shakespearean drama Richard III.

Shakespeare’s classic tale of a wicked and deformed king who locked his child nephews away.

The costume consists of a tunic and doublet. The tunic is long and made of a faded burgundy material with a faux fur lining at the bottom. The doublet features a silvery diamond pattern. Both items have hook and eye fastenings. As the pieces were made specially for Richardson in the role they feature no size labelling.

The pieces have some wear from production use and age, including some loose threading and plucking. The colours have faded over the years. Considering the age of the costume it remains in an excellent condition.

Materials: Man-Made Woven Fibres, Ferrous Metals.
