”Now listen Charles, we’ve all done something unforgivable. I’ve betrayed my pirate honour, you’ve betrayed science, and Mr. Bobo’s betrayed the animal kingdom.”

A backstage mechanism from the Royal Society from Aardman Animation’s 2012 adventure comedy The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists!

Pirate Captain (Hugh Grant) is determined to win the Pirate of the Year Award and defeat his rivals Black Bellamy (Jeremy Piven) and Cutlass Liz (Salma Hayek). His quest takes him and his crew from their home on Blood Island, to the streets of Victorian London.

This backstage mechanism was made for the film and can be seen in the background during the scene backstage at the Royal Society, before Pirate Captain is going to show the scientists his dodo Polly. Made of wood and resin, the piece appears to be the mechanism to open and close the stage curtains. It has been hand painted to look like worn wood, metal and leather.

The pieces show some wear from production use and storage, but otherwise remain in an excellent condition.

Materials: Resin, Wood, Man-Made Woven Fibres.
