Dick Charleston’s (David Niven) jacket and trousers from Robert Moore’s mystery comedy Murder by Death.
Five famous detectives and their sidekicks are invited to a bizarre and creepy mansion to solve a strange mystery at the behest of a reclusive millionaire.
Dick wore his trousers when dressed in his tuxedo during dinner. His jacket is not ultimately seen on screen as he wears a long trench coat for much of the opening act. The black trousers have a label from Western Costume Co. which has ‘David Niven #3A’ printed on it. ‘1940s’ has been handwritten in white pen in two places inside the waistband. The jacket has several labels from Western Costume Co., including one in the inside right pocket with Niven’s name on and a size of 38 chest.
The costume has some wear from production use and age, including some loose threading, most notably on the trousers. Considering the age of the items they remain in a very good condition.
