A map of Hamunaptra and an art department note from the production of Stephen Sommers’ 1999 adventure fantasy film The Mummy.
At an archaeological dig in the ancient city of Hamunaptra, an American serving in the French Foreign Legion accidentally awakens a mummy who begins to wreck havoc as he searches for the reincarnation of his long-lost love.
Evelyn (Rachel Weisz) used a map to find Hamunaptra and the resting place of Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo). This map differs from the one seen in the final cut of the film in several ways. The film version is folded into squares and has more detail than this map. Notes were given to members of the art department as a means to give thanks for their work on the film. The map and note are paper, the note features a printed message which reads ‘Best Wishes Allan Cameron and “The Mummy” art department August 1998’. The map and note show minimal wear from production use with some light creases and folds, and they remain in an otherwise very good condition.
