An original production storyboard from The Wachowskis’ 1999 science fiction action film The Matrix.
Computer programmer Neo (Keanu Reeves) discovers that what he thinks of as reality is in fact a simulated reality called The Matrix, created by thought-capable machines. Trinity (Carrie-Ann Moss) draws him into a rebellion against the machines, alongside Morpheus (Laurence Fishbourne).
This storyboard shows two shots, two extreme close-ups of Morpheus from the scene where he first shows Neo The Matrix, in contrast with his old life. This still from the film shows how the concept evolved in pre-production, from the slightly different glasses to the alternative choice of shot.
It is printed in black and white on white paper with three holes punched on the left hand side, indicating that it comes from an extensive shot-by-shot storyboard of all The Matrix’s now iconic scenes. The page has been annotated in pencil twice, with ‘HP – 4D’ and ‘HP – 4F’ written on the right-hand side next to the two frames.
The storyboard comes beautifully presented in a custom-built framed display with laser-cut mount board featuring the classic movie title. The piece is in excellent condition.
