A control chair from the production of the Stephen Hopkins’ 1998 big-screen adaptation of the classic sci-fi television show Lost in Space.
When a terrorist plot leaves the Jupiter II space ship lost in deep space, the stranded Robinson family and pilot Don West (Matt LeBlanc) must band together to find their way off of an alien world.
This control chair was made for the production and would have been used as set decoration in the control room before the Jupiter II took off on its mission. It is made of carbon fibre and resin painted to look like metal. The chair features a blue cushion and an acrylic ‘control panel’ on each side, adorned with colourful buttons which light up upon flicking the switch hidden under the right-side panel. At the bottom is a circular hole where it would have attached to a stand. There is noticeable wear from production use and age, with marks and scratches around the back of the chair. Four of the lights are missing and not all of them work. There is some discolouration on the cushion. Despite this the chair remains in good overall condition.
Materials: Acrylic, Carbon Fibre, Resin, Ferrous Metals, Man-Made Woven Fibres.
