These jackets can be seen during the memorable parade scenes when Indy is trying to escape the German soldiers in the crowds with his notebook and finds himself face to face with Adolf Hitler himself, who signs the notebook for him, mistaking him for a fan! The long coat has sadly had its buttons and epaulettes removed.
The helmet is made of formed plastic, painted grey and lined with foam for the comfort of the wearer. The paint has chipped and peeled in use on set and in storage and the shields pasted to the sides of the helmet have been removed, though costumier labels remain inside the helmet.
The coat is sized for someone 5’8” tall and with a 40” chest, while the helmet is sized for a relatively small head. The costumes were specifically made for the film and came from a clearance sale of the costumier and this example is still in a good, production-used condition.
