Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, The (2005)

Matte Painting

Stock #37584

”In the beginning the universe was created. This made a lot of people angry and has widely been considered as a bad move.”

A matt painting from Garth Jennings’ 2005 sci-fi comedy The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

This large matt image was used as a backdrop for the news report scene where Galactic President Zaphod Beeblebrox (Sam Rockwell) addressed an enormous crowd on Damogran, telling them that he was kidnapping himself and then stealing the starship Heart of Gold.

Painted in acrylic on a very large wooden board, the illustration depicts grassy Highland-like scenery, with the sea and cliffs on either side. It presents an overhead perspective of a huge crowd of people clustered around tents and screens. In the final scene, the starship and other elements were digitally superimposed to create the impression of a newscast.

The painting includes a cloth cover and features minor marks and paint wear from production use and storage. It remains in very good overall condition.

Materials: Wood, Man-Made Woven Fibres.
