The mechanical arm has a complex puppet hand that operates with the use of a variety of cables. The arm is dressed in the sleeve of a pink sweatshirt matching the wardrobe from the scene, and the skin for the arm is made with silicone which covers the fiberglass shell for the arm, and the resin hand. The underlying hand contains joints that mimic the skeletal structure of a human hand, and are connected to the cables that operate it. At the shoulder of the arm is a metal handle that holds a bicycle brake that operates the wrist by bending it forward when the handle is depressed. Operating the fingers are two sets of cables with different controllers. One controller operates the middle, ring and pinky fingers individually by producing motion when pulled. The other controller is mounted onto a board of plywood, and operates with a handle that contorts all of the fingers at once. Written on the plywood board are two settings, “chopped” and “correct,” with each setting having an arrow that indicates the position the handle should be in.
This item measures approximately 9” x 11.5” x 106” (23cm x 29cm x 269cm), and has suffered damage to the silicone skin covering the fingers (see photos), however the cables and their controllers remain in good condition.
