Hellboy

Pair of Abe Sapien's (Doug Jones) Animatronic Gills

Stock #20864

”Touched you five seconds, laid three eggs.”

A pair of Abe Sapien’s (Doug Jones) animatronic gills used in the 2004 comic book movie adaptation Hellboy.

These were worn by the highly intelligent aquatic humanoid in the movie and were originally connected to a servo that would have controlled their unique flapping movements to make his outstanding full body costume and makeup that bit more realistic. They are made from silicone attached to a canvass base and have been artfully painted shades of purple and blue and would have blended seamlessly into the rest of his blue makeup.

The original control wires are still present and the mechanism can be felt inside however the connectors have been removed and are now a static prop. Some minor deterioration is evident on each gill, and there is a substantial amount of glue around the edges where they were attached to the actor’s costume. However, they remain in very good condition and measure 18cm x 12cm (7” x 4.75”) each.

Materials: Silicone, Canvas, Electronic Components, Ferrous Metals.
