"It's all bigger and scarier than we ever thought."
Serafina Pekkala's stunt dagger from Chris Weitz' 2007 fantasy adventure The Golden Compass.
Based on Philip Pullman's novel Northern Lights, the film tells the story of a parallel universe where a person's soul is tied to transforming animal companions known as dmons.
Stone daggers like this were used by Serafina Pekkala (Eva Green) and her witches during the final battle with the Tartar mercenaries and their wolf dmons, where Iorek Byrnison (voiced by Sir Ian McKellen), Lee Scoresby (Sam Elliott) and the Gyptians join the fray. Serafina protected Lyra (Dakota Blue Richards) by stabbing an attacking mercenary behind her, and later dispatched another mercenary by throwing a knife. The knife has been horizontally cut halfway down the blade to form a flat surface for actors to create the impression of being stabbed with.
One of several made for production, the one-piece knife is made from rubber for safety during stunts and close action work. It has been roughly textured and painted a dark grey-black to resemble hand-crafted stone. The blade has been neatly severed approximately halfway down for production purposes. Angular hilt and handle details complete the design.
Exhibiting some wear from use and production-based distressing, the dagger remains in very good overall condition.
