Gladiator
Praetorian Pilum Spear
Stock #129998
A spear carried by a Praetorian cavalryman in Ridley Scott’s 2000 epic Gladiator.
This spear, or pilum, and others like it were used by the elite horse-mounted guards of the Roman emperors Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris) and Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix). Made of wood with copper detailing and a reinforced rubber spearhead, the spear is more detailed than the standard Roman spears used in the film, with an ornate carved grip and copper discs applied. A copper band holds the rubber spearhead in place. It no longer features the white faux-hair decoration as seen in the film, but a few hairs remains stuck to it.
Well-used on the production, it has some wear, including scuffs and scratches, but overall remains in an excellent condition.
Materials: Wood, Ferrous Metals, Rubber.
