Praetorian Officer's Sword Display

Stock #37595

“My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions and loyal servant to the TRUE emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.”

A Praetorian officer’s sword display from Ridley Scott’s 2000 action drama Gladiator.

A former Roman General sets out to exact vengeance against the corrupt emperor who murdered his family and sent him into slavery.

This sword and others like it were made for the production and would have been wielded by members of the elite foot guards of the Roman emperors Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris) and Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix). The Praetorian Guard were under the Emperor’s direct command, being ordered by Commodus to execute Maximus in the forests of Germania.

The sword is a stunt version made of rubber and has been painted silver and brown to look like steel and wood. The handle features a little piece of detailing in the form of ‘SPQR’ and a face protruding from the guard. The sword has been displayed in a custom-made frame featuring the film’s title and four stills from the film.

The sword has some wear from production use and age, including scuffing and scratching to the blade. The paintwork has worn away in some places, most notably on the handle. Overall, considering the age and production-use, it remains in a very good condition.

Materials: Rubber, Ferrous Metals, Wood, Card, Acrylic.
