A hero Praetorian sword and sheath from Ridley Scott's Academy Award-winning historical drama Gladiator. After Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) became Emperor, he gained the Praetorian Guard, an elite unit of the Imperial Roman Army, as his personal bodyguards.
The metal sword has a black-painted wooden hilt with a brasstone patterned band around the guard with the letters "SPQR" ("Senatus Populusque Romanus" or "The Roman Senate and People"). The sheath is made of wood wrapped in black-painted canvas with brasstone metal hardware and a black leather strap. The lot is in good overall condition with minor wear from use and age, including small dents in the edges of the blade as well as scuffs and scratches throughout.
