Battle of Carthage Charioteer's Spear

Stock #67808

A spear from Ridley Scott’s Academy Award winning epic Gladiator. Betrayed by his Emperor’s son Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) and sold into slavery, Roman general Maximus (Russell Crowe) finds his calling in the arena as a gladiator. But when a festival of games begins in Commodus’ honour, Maximus returns to Rome with thoughts of revenge for his lost Emperor and family.

This spear and others like it were used by the charioteers in Maximus’ first fight in the Colosseum arena, the re-enactment of the Battle of Carthage. Surrounded by chariots, Maximus rallied the gladiators and took command, turning the tide against the mobile enemies to snatch victory – and survival – from the jaws of defeat.

The long spear is made of a length of cane with a rubber spear head, a sharpened base and leather grip detailing. The spear head is finished in black, with wood varnishing applied across the length of the spear to make it appear as though it is made of denser wood.

Well used on the production with wear and tarnishing from use in the arena, the spear remains in overall good condition.
