In a plot inspired by William Shakespeare's "The Tempest", MGM's "Forbidden Planet" is one of the most popular sci-fi films of all time with a dedicated following among collectors for its impact on the genre and the associated futuristic 'Space Age' imagery. It was the studio's first big-budget foray into the popular sci-fi market which showed on the screen with cutting-edge special effects, high production and design values, including the debut of a pop culture icon - Robby the Robot, who featured throughout the movie's worldwide advertising campaign. The UK Quad is undeniably one the scarcest formats for the title with this amazing example being an auction first for Prop Store. Robby the Robot is pictured holding Altaira (Anne Francis) together with the subterranean Krell city and the wonderfully pictured mountains and planet landscape. The colours are fantastically vibrant with this example displaying to excellent effect, benefitting from conservation linen backing and very light resoration with the foldlines touched in and flattened out . A very rare film poster for a classic science fiction film.
