A playing card from the production of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight.
Billionaire Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) has become a hero to his city as his alter-ego Batman, but has lost the woman he loves to aspiring DA Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart). The emergence of a new threat brings the two men together, but can justice prevail against a force so chaotic as The Joker (Heath Ledger)?
This card and others like it were made for use in the production, and ultimately given away as part of the film's viral promotion campaign in 2008. This style of card appeared in the courtroom scene where Judge Surrillo (Nydia Rodriguez-Terracina) opened her documents to find the card amidst the papers – there is a close-up on the design. This style of card was used again when the Joker assassinated Surillo with a car bomb and left hundreds of his “calling cards” behind. It was included on the periphery of the shot.
Made of a thick card material with a textured semi-gloss finish, the item features a black and white illustration of a maniacally laughing devil jester figure clutching its stomach. On the reverse the card features a red printed diamond and filigree pattern.
The card remains in very good condition.
