A trumpeter's jacket from Ken Hughes' 1968 adventure film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Unlucky inventor Caractacus Potts (Dick Van Dyke) turns a broken Grand Prix vehicle into a car with personality for his children, in which they embark on a fantasy adventure to save their grandfather in a faraway land.
Trumpeteers wore their jackets outside Baron Bomburst's (Gert Frobe) castle in Vulgaria after he kidnapped Grandpa Potts (Lionel Jeffries), believing him to be creator of Chitty the flying car.
Based on military band styles, the purple jacket is made of felt material, with red collar, cuffs and epaulettes. A yellow trim runs across the front and sleeves, with two rows decorative metal buttons, and hook-and-eye clasps to fasten it. Two M. Berman Ltd. costumiers labels are located in the lining.
The jacket displays light wear from natural age and use during production, with stitching on the right epaulette having come away from the jacket and slight tears to the underarm lining. It is in otherwise good condition.
Materials: Man-Made Woven Fibres, Ferrous Metals.
