Christopher Columbus’ (Jim Dale) costume from Gerald Thomas' comedy Carry on Columbus. Released in 1992, it was the 31st and final film to date in the Carry On series.
Christopher Columbus believes he can find an alternative route to the Far East and persuades the Spanish royal family to finance it - but the Sultan of Turkey (Rik Mayall) has other ideas and sets out to wreck the journey.
Columbus wore his red velvet outfit in several scenes throughout the movie. It is made up of a doublet with long, puffy sleeves, red inner lining and a gold and black trim to decorate. Some wear is evident from production use and natural ageing, including minor fraying in some areas. The lining inside the left sleeve has become unstitched. Despite this the costume remains in a good overall condition.
Materials: Man-Made Woven Fibres.
