A Hydra “V” gauge from the production of the 2011 Marvel action-adventure film Captain America: The First Avenger.
Scrawny Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) is rejected for military service as the USA marches to war against Japan and Germany. Helped by Dr Abraham Erskine (Stanley Tucci), Rogers enlists as part of a “super soldier” experiment, becoming the famous Captain America and taking the war to the nefarious Red Skull (Hugo Weaving).
Gauges like this were used on control panels in multiple scenes - Dr. Arnim Zola’s (Toby Jones) lab when Red Skull harnessed the power of the Tesseract, where Red Skull obliterated three Nazi officers using the Valkyrie weapon, and when Captain America stormed the Red Skull base with the freed prisoners.
This analogue gauge consists of a brushed metal plate in a stylised black plastic frame. The face features a black needle, measurements printed in red and black and a red Hydra emblem, covered by an acrylic screen. Below the screen are large black and maroon buttons with a serial number printed between them.
Behind the device face is a rigid white plastic tube and frame that held the original electro-mechanical components - a strip of electronic components is fixed inside. The gauge was powered during production, although components are missing – a clipped cable is fixed to the tube. The needle can be moved manually via its spindle.
The gauge shows some wear from use, and electro-mechanical components have been removed. Despite this, it remains in good overall production-used condition and retains its four mounting screws.
