A mechanoid activation screen used in Stephen Spielberg’s 2001 sci-fi drama A.I. Artificial Intelligence
The film follows David (Haley Joel Osment), a highly advanced robotic boy, who hopes to become a real boy to regain the love of his human mother.
These screens were used to activate the mechanoids, and you can clearly see one in front of a female robot right at the beginning of the movie when Professor Hobby (William Hurt) is demonstrating the newest breakthrough in Mechas. The futuristic device is made from moulded plastic with soft round curves, bright pink bobbled grips and a clear acrylic screen. Behind this is an acetate made to look like a touch screen that tells the owner how to activate their new companion. The back of the device opens to reveal a light box that gave the prop it’s glow. It is powered by two nine-volt batteries (not included).
Materials: Plastic, Ferrous Metals.
