James Cole’s (Bruce Willis) original tiger costume from Terry Gilliam’s 1995 neo-noir science fiction 12 Monkeys.
Traveling back in time isn't simple, as James Cole (Bruce Willis) learns the hard way. Imprisoned in the 2030s, James is recruited for a mission that will send him back to the 1990s. Once there, he's supposed to gather information about a nascent plague that's about to exterminate most of the world's population. But, aside from the manic Jeffrey (Brad Pitt), he gets little in the way of cooperation, not least from medical gatekeepers like Dr. Kathryn Railly (Madeleine Stowe).
The distinctive 'Pineapple Juice' Hawaiian shirt is green and covered in tigers (size large) and has wooden buttons, the white trousers are ‘Polo’ made by Ralph Lauren (size 32/36) with a fly front fastening and a brown leather and rope woven belt. This is the most recognisable of Willis' costume pieces and was worn in the flashback scenes and the memorable climax. The same style of shirt can also be seen hanging on a rail in the derelict shop that Willis visits at the film’s opening.
The costume shows signs of production use and wear: the third button on the front of the shirt has a piece snapped off, the trousers show signs of staining along the bottoms and the belt buckle is tarnished but nonetheless the whole piece remains in good production-used condition.
Materials: Cotton, Man-Made Woven Fibres, Leather, Ferrous Metals.
