A "Mandy" full-size animatronic dolphin puppet from Charles Martin Smith's 2014 family drama, Dolphin Tale 2. This animatronic dolphin comes from the opening scene, in which a team from the Clearwater Marine Aquarium rescue a dolphin suffering from a respiratory infection and severe sunburn. Named after the child who discovered her, Mandy is taken to CMA where she is treated for her injuries. This Mandy puppet was created to ensure the safety of both the human and animal actors during the scene.
This full size puppet features a silicone skin over a sturdy frame and includes acrylic eyes. Protruding from the belly of the dolphin are a number of tubes and cables which were used to operate the puppet, allowing it to thrash around during its rescue. The dolphin resides on a padded support structure, which provides a level of protection to the silicone puppet.
This item exhibits minor wear due to production use, including portions of the silicone on the tail that has worn away, but remains in overall very good condition.
