Justin Quayle’s (Ralph Fiennes) fake British passport from Fernando Meirelles’ 2005 drama The Constant Gardener.
British diplomat Justin Quayle (Ralph Fiennes) falls for passionate activist Tessa (Rachel Weisz). The couple marry after a whirlwind romance and depart on a diplomatic mission to Kenya. When Tessa nearly uncovers the malpractices of a powerful pharmaceutical company, she and her colleague are brutally murdered. Devastated, Justin begins to investigate her death and becomes deeply embroiled in Tessa’s mission. He must put her apparent infidelity behind him as he quests to shame members of the British High Commission and their involvement with the pharmaceutical company.
This fake British passport carries the name ‘Robert Black’, made for the film’s production. It is not seen in the final cut of the film, but the name Robert Black was used by Justin when he took a plane to meet with Dr Brandt (Pete Postlethwaite).
The passport has a maroon United Kingdom cover and inside a picture of Justin with the details for a fictitious person named Robert Black, and remains in very good overall condition.
During filming, the cast and crew decided to set up The Constant Gardener Trust, an organisation that, initially, would help specifically the communities they had met and worked with during the shoot. Their aim is to improve basic sanitation and education for those who are most in need of their help.
