Freddy’s Glove

One of the most iconic images of 80’s horror is the leather razor glove worn by Robert Englund as Freddy Kruger first seen in Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984). It has spawned countless sequels at the movie theatres as well as a TV series. The Freddy Kruger character has proved to be one of the most popular villains in movie history.

The glove here in the Propstore collection is one of the hero metal steel bladed versions used when the Elm Street franchise joined up with another horror favourite, the Jason character from the Friday the 13th series in 2003 with “Freddy Vs Jason” (directed by Ronny Yu). The metal version of the glove would have been used for close up shots but the majority of the filming would have probably used plastic or rubber blades for safety of the actors.

Freddy Vs Jason took a number of years to reach the audience as the respective franchise owners couldn’t agree on a suitable script after the box office failure of Friday the 13th Part 8, and it also took a while for studios to align behind the project. The movie was finally released in 2003 to mixed reviews and some fan outrage at the recasting of Jason from Kane Hodder to Ken Kirzinger.

The glove, perhaps best remembered as Freddy approached a victim, running the blades, screeching along the walls, has been professionally presented on a stand and a light up base featuring the colours and the logo of the movie.
